Awesome product! I packed up my son for college and drove 4K miles roundtrip to drop him at college and had a memorable fly fishing trip along the way with multiple day stops for fishing. I had it on my truck for the first time in less than 30 min. My fly rod carrier was easily strapped to the top using the D rings. The top was rugged and quite for the entire trip.
The cap is absolutely amazing, the extra headroom the MR series provides is incredible. All the caps are amazing but I recently upgraded to the MR56 and the headroom allows for a higher bed with storage underneath, great for a rainy day; not claustrophobic or cramped. Easy to put on and take off. Incredibly secure on both the highway and off road paths through the mountains. Easy to clean and packs up small, easy to store inside. A one person job to assemble. I get a lot of complements from everyone seeking a better set-up. The air filled walls provide great insulation and never had an issue with leaks and it seems to downpour every trip. I clip on a canopy to the d-rings on top and span it out, allows for a great barrier when cooking or getting in and out while it rains. The D-Hooks make a good trip great for how often I use them. I ordered the Air Window. I can’t wait for the new addition to arrive.
Awesome product. Had it on my truck in 30 minutes. Strapped my flyrod carrier to the top and made a 4K mile fly fishing road trip to drop my son off at college. We had more than enough room for all our camping/fishing gear and all of his college stuff. It was super rugged and quite! Highly recommended
Such a great purchase. I did a lot of research before buying. Was looking for a truck cap that was lightweight and easy to install and uninstall. Also did not want to have to store a full-size cap. This fit the Bill
Happy to report that it performed perfectly on a recent vacation to the Outer Banks. Had a 10 Hour drive through pounding rain on the way there and arrived without a drop of water inside. I’m also happy to report that at highway speeds, no significant motion/rattling/movement.
Maybe lost 1-2 mpg on fuel economy, but not sure if that could’ve been attributed to the extra load/weight we were carrying.
Easy to inflate and install. Equally easy to deflate and pack back into the storage bag provided.
I did purchase the optional electric pump, which works perfectly as well.
I put a lot of research into a topper that would work best for my lifestyle and I kept coming back to the Flated, so I finally ordered one. I love it. High quality and looks good. So far, I’ve broken it in by taking it to Yosemite, camping in it in the Sierras, taking my dog everywhere, and driving from CA to CO with it on—going over 85mph for stretches, and it’s held up great. We’ll be taking it around Colorado and continuing to camp in it as we go. Thanks, Flated — solid product!
This topper has proven to be a great purchase! I bought it intending to use it once in a while and I haven’t taken it off. It has been great and keeps everything dry. Rock solid at highway speeds.
So far the Flated topper has completely met my expectations. It has been a perfect solution for my situation. The acid test will be an extended camping trip in Colorado and New Mexico this July.
So... it's tough as nails. Front corners do not fit snug to my F-150. Back window hangs down so that it blocks rear camera views. I've raised my rails with a frame made from 2x4's and a foam pad. The Flated rests on that. Seems to have solved the front corner gap issue as well as raising the back window above the cameras that are in the tailgate.
Super easy to set up! Don’t forget to attach the front window before you load it on. I read that before I bought it, I read it again after, and still forgot in my excitement to get it set up. Don’t be like me. Overall I love this thing!
I needed a bed cover to transport my very large dogs. From box to installation took about 30mins.. I was pleasantly surprised. Feels very sturdy and appears to be well made. Take off was just as easy. I almost got it back into the provided carrier. Overall, it is a good product.
I purchased my topper last month and after installing it, went on a ten-day, 3500-mile road trip. My trip started in MN and went through the SD Badlands, Black Hills, Yellowstone, N Idaho and Glacier Park. I experienced weather ranging from 30 degrees to 92 degrees. Rain and snow. Speed limits as high as 80mph. The topper performed perfectly and didn't even budge. I didn't have to adjust it at all. The one modification that I would suggest is that the zipper on the rear window be made a U zipper. This way you could access the truck bed without undoing the velcro each time, and you could have it fastened while inside sleeping. I haven't deflated it for storage yet. I highly recommend this topper.
Just got back from weeks trip through Virginia and down the Blue ridge parkway the trip was great and the topper held up perfectly throughout the entire trip.
We are driving cross country from SC to Montana and Colorado. It’s held up well with highway speeds, rain and the many dusty trails we have driven on. Highly recommended.
Installation was pretty basic for the 2025 F-150 lightning the front corners of the bed turn forward and this unit didn’t allow for additional material to have the rain flap over the whole edge in the front corners i used black silicone to that 3 inch area in the curve to the back I live in Florida and if your familiar with our afternoon rain showers it rains sideways so that’s why I did this I wanted to keep the topper as it’s cooler inside than my old white metal one on my older F-150 so for an EV F-150 lightning the fact it’s super light was a definite deciding factor I also got the solar PSI gauge and the tint on the windows is dark enough that at 10am you have to lift the vinyl window all the way up to get a reading but it’s been holding at 5.23 lbs and so I’m very pleased with the final product final look
Installation was SUPER easy, did it all by myself. The air topper is everything I'd hoped for on the road. We drove 75+ for several hours in pouring rain and beating sun, held up without any concern or water getting in. More than doubles the storage space of my tonneau cover. Takedown and storage were one-man jobs too. Love the flexibility to have a topper but only when really needed.
Very happy. Easy to set it up and take it down. While the cap looks sleeker, topper is def way to go - more space, and easier to get around inside once it’s installed.
Would be great to have reinforced d-rings towards the back to install a grab handle to help get in and out. A grab handle can also be included in the kit. I used a monkey bar on a chain (see picture) and it was a big help, but I concerned it may rip the d-ring mount off as it’s more pressure than just to support a rolled up window.
I absolutely love the flated topper.
I have been traveling throughout Wyoming for the past three weeks with it and I wanted to share observations - good and bad. All of the bad can be mitigated, particularly with planning - and if Flated desires to continue innovating, it can be even better.
1.) I can pack more in the back of the truck. Now, I wouldn’t recommend going overboard here, but many truck owners will relate when I say I often run up against packing a few inches too high for a rolling tonneau cover. problem solved.
2.) My entire family fly-fishes, and as the only one that can rig a fly-rod, it’s painful and time consuming setting up 5 fly-rods while I’m watching a green drake hatch on the gros ventre river. I was able to make a gear loft out of paracord, and then ran fly rods into the cab of the truck through the trucks sliding rear window and the toppers removable front window. It’s an imperfect solution, but it resulted in much more time on the water. I feel like theres a real opportunity for Flated to innovate here. I know products exist, but i’m fundamentally opposed to paying $700 for thermo-molded plastic. Additionally, including or selling mesh that attaches to the inner d-rings would make an excellent gear loft. Easy to hack, but its an opportunity for flated.
3.) Keep an eye on pressure. When you drive up to 9,000’ in the bighorns, weird things happen to inflated and sealed products. Cans explode, water bottles explode, bags of chips explode. If you’re maxed out on air pressure in your topper, you’ll be putting undue stress on it.
4.) Wyomings forest service roads are dusty. Zippers are difficult to use under these conditions. Flated sells lubricant. If you’ll be traveling in a similar environment, I highly recommend buying their lubricant and cleaner. It was too late for me though. In a pinch, you can use chapstick (something else I highly recommend when going to the mountains) or vaseline. Thinking aloud for the innovators at Flated - would magnets work instead of zippers and velcro?
5.) On the 2021 F-150, the tailgate attachment point is a little awkward. It naturally wants to sit right over the top of the backup camera. Just a minor annoyance. You can move the tailgate strap above the camera, but it doesnt ride the same. Not sure much can be done about this and again - its a very minor annoyance. I spent a good portion of my life backing up with no camera at all so… just something to note. (as a thought, you could also cut out a piece of material if this really bothered you, but youd have to reinforce the edges with stitching)
6.) On a particularly bumpy forest service road, I did have one edge of the topper slip off the bed rail. Upon inspecting the supplied straps, they’re really poor quality and had stretched quite a bit. Fixed with NRS straps. Just a note. Not a big deal. Particularly if you always travel with a bucket full of NRS straps.
7.) I will be truck camping with the Flated soon and have been looking for bed tarps and tents that extend over the tailgate. Other options exist, but this is another opportunity for Flated to cut into the truck tent camping market and to be honest, id rather buy from Flated.
I was sad to only see one other Flated topper on the road in my travels, but it was a memorable thumbs up moment between dudes. :)
At the end of the day, this topper became an integral part of our annual, month-long western vacation and I cant imagine life without it now.
Buy without reservation. This is a slick, very well built and versatile topper. You will
not be disappointed.
(note: as much as I wanted to throw it in the snake river to use it as a drift boat, the wife wouldnt let me. :D )
Will definitely be buying more products from Flated. The sharks who said no I think really missed a unique opportunity here.
Setup is easy. Teardown is easy. Storage is Easy.
My initial trip was 2500 hard miles with the truck bed full. The topper is flawless in performance. No need to tighten (I checked) and through inches a day of rain for a week it stayed completely dry.
I would recommend to anyone who needs the flexibility.
This fits our truck perfectly and is easy to install. Looking forward to using it for a few weeks in Canada this summer. It passed the trial run this weekend with flying colors.
Absolutely love the cover. My only issue is getting the back window to close. The tape and velcro strap provided came with limited instructions and were no where strong enough to support it. It sealed the first time, but any attempts to open the window resulted in the velcro tearing away from the tape verses the velcro seperating. I've tried different tapes, but all result in the same situation - single use only and have to replace the tape every time.
