Essential Tips for Maintaining Your FLATED® Products

  • 4 min read

Flated® products are the perfect choice for car owners looking for a lightweight, versatile road trip solution. But like any gear exposed to the elements, inflatable products need a bit of upkeep to stay in top shape. Here’s how to keep your Flated® products looking great and performing well, with just a few easy maintenance steps, especially if you use your Flated® products full time!

1. Clean FLATED® products with the FLATED inflatable cleaner

Keep your Flated® products clean by washing them like you would your vehicle! The road is rough out there. Salt, dirt, grime can affect not only the look of the Flated® products but also the Drop Stitch material and fabric longevity. Use FLATED®’S INFLATABLE CLEANER to keep it looking and feeling fresh! Use this on the Drop Stitch of your Flated® products especially when you store them.

  • Spray: Generously spray FLATED®’S INFLATABLE CLEANER onto the Drop Stitch material.
  • Scrub: Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub away dirt and grime.
  • Rinse: Rinse with water or wipe with a clean damp microfiber cloth.
  • Dry: Ensure the cleaned surface is thoroughly dried.
  • Treat: For best results follow-up by using our FLATED® INFLATABLE UV GUARD to enhance the appearance, as well as protect and condition the surface.

2. Use UV spray to protect Flated® Drop-Stitch material

Direct sun exposure can wear down even the most durable materials. Applying FLATED®’s custom UV Guard regularly can help shield the material from the sun’s harmful rays. While the topper already has the UV protectant on it, it’s a great idea to keep refreshed.  This spray not only helps protect against UV damage but also keeps the material looking fresh, prevents fading by hydrating the materials and keeping it flexible and easier to store. The INFLATABLE UV GUARD is also great on your window, particularly if you’re in a dry climate.  A quick spray every few weeks is all it takes to keep the material in excellent condition, especially in sunny climates.

Drop Stitch & PVC surfaces:

  1. Apply: Apply INFLATABLE UV GUARD on a sponge or applicator pad.
  2. Wipe: Wipe on entire drop-stitch and vinyl surfaces.
  3. Dry: Allow the product to dry thoroughly before moving.

Storing inflatable products:

For the best inflatable experience, follow our PVC Surface instructions to condition before folding and storing your FLATED® product before its next use! Regular use of the INFLATABLE UV GUARD will help prolong the life of your inflatable gear and keep it looking pristine. Will also keep it soft and easier to manage!

3. Keep the clear vinyl windows crystal clear and prevent cracking

The clear vinyl windows on the Flated® Air-Topper®'s provide visibility, while the main material is more durable and rigid, designed to withstand tough weather conditions, both require regular care and maintenance. For the clear vinyl windows and Air-Topper® material, use the same INFLATABLE UV GUARD, but dilute to remove dust, dirt, and any streaks, leaving your windows  and Air-topper clear without any buildup.

Vinyl or glass windows:

  1. Dilute: Dilute product 50 parts water to 1 part product.
  2. Spray: Mist the entire area to be cleaned.
  3. Wipe: Clean area with a microfiber cloth or paper towel. Wipe the window clean with the second microfiber cloth or towel to give a polished look.

4. Lubricate the zippers for smooth functionality

The zippers on your Flated® products can start to stick if they’re exposed to dusty or cold climates. Dust and grime entering the zippers can cause damage to the zipper and teeth on the rear windows. Using a zipper cleaner, and a zipper lubricant is a quick and easy way to keep them gliding smoothly and most importantly - DONT FORCE the zippers!

5. Rinse the straps

Straps play an essential role in securing your topper, so they deserve some attention too. Every now and then, loosen and rinse the straps with water to remove dirt and debris that can build up, once cleaned make sure to retighten the straps! Keeping them clean helps maintain their strength and prevents wear over time.

6. Clean the velcro

Velcro is crucial for a secure attachment, but it can accumulate lint and debris over time, weakening its grip. To keep it effective, give the Velcro strips a quick rinse and a gentle brush to remove buildup. This small step will ensure a strong, reliable grip when you need it.

7. Set the correct psi for optimal performance

Setting your Flated Air-Topper to the right PSI is key to maintaining its durability and performance. The ideal PSI range is between 5 and 8, but this can vary based on climate. In warmer conditions, aim for a PSI of 5-6, as air expands with heat. In colder climates, set the PSI closer to 7-8 to compensate for contraction as temperatures drop. Regularly checking and adjusting the PSI as needed will help keep your topper in top shape and ready for any adventure, regardless of weather conditions.

8. Taking Your FLATED® Products Through the Carwash

We can not trust every single car wash out there in the world, so we just say, NO! We do NOT recommend taking your Flated® products through a car wash. We’ve heard a few horror stories about what a carwash can do to your Flated® products and recommend using our cleaning solutions, or the spray stations at the car wash!
