Used it recently on our OCMD trip. Held up wonderfully. Had to deflate it to get into parking garage. So simple and pumping back up easy when it was time to leave. Would highly recommend.
Bought for my artist daughter who was moving to another State and had 30 paintings to move. It worked perfectly. Easy to install, easy to store, and easy to travel with on top of her small SUV. No downsides!!!
We were debating between Flated or a hard shell carrier, and I couldn’t be happier with our decision to choose Flated. It was so easy to inflate then even easier to install on our car. Amazing quality
I only learned about the air carrier shortly before our family vacation. I was concerned that I might not receive it in time. I reached out to customer support and Joe was quick to jump in and provide fast and courteous service! We received the air carrier in time for our 1,500 mile round trip and it exceeded my expectations! It was easy to install and load, quiet, secure, and reassuring! Deflating and storing was also a breeze, and I'm looking forward to many worry free trips ahead!
TL;DR: Just drove 1,000 mile round trip at about 80 mph and some 100 mph sections with two suitcases in and it didn't budge, didn't leak, and made traveling with a baby and all the required extra gear so much easier. What can I say, the carrier delivers and is totally worth it.
Well, I guess I could say more: Got my FLATED large carrier incredibly quickly after it's sent date, so right on time to what they told me to begin with. Learning curve is pretty low minus one aspect that they give in online written instructions but not the handout or quick video they made: make sure the front strap attachment point is just over/infront of your roof rack. This is done to stop the wind from blowing it up when you drive.
And the velcro is very aggressive, so be careful handling the zipper, I got poked a few times by the velcro. Lastly, I do recommend making sure your roof rack is evenly spaced enough so it distributes the load evenly. I had to move my rear bar further back because my large suitcase wasn't resting on the roof rack back but only the inflated frame. So make sure the weight from your loads is still distributed in part to the roof rack or roof, not just the inflated frame.
This worked great. Picked it up because I don't have much storage space to keep the carrier when not in use. Used it for the first time on a family camping trip. Set up and loading was super easy. Left it up for the week as extra storage and it help pressure well.
Very satisfied with this purchase. It's a quality product that served our needs. It was a little confusing to setup but the videos were helpful enough. Highly recommend.
Compact when not in use, rigid when aired up, perfect for me. It did take a few tries to get the right weight distribution figured out so the topper didn’t buffer, but once did, perfect! I will also say I had an issue with my unit on a road trip, the customer service is top notch and that really means a lot these days, wouldn’t hesitant to buy from them again!
I do love the air carrier BUT as a short woman it is hard to get the straps tight. YouTube videos suggest pulling from behind the vehicle (straps are not long enough to reach without much longer arms) and pulling from the side requires an arm strength not possessed by most women over a certain age. A way to tighten the straps that’s not reliant on arm pull strength (also have a bad shoulder so it’s gets much tighter on one side than the other) would elevate the product even more. In the end I had to MacGyver using ratchet straps because it just slides too much based on my arm strength alone. I struggled giving 5 stars because of this but also realize that most men probably don’t have this problem and most likely are the ones who tested install (my 22 year old son had no issue when I had him try).
The ability to load from both sides is great. The setup and ease of getting it on top the vehicle is superior to any topper I have used. From backpack to install is less than 10 minutes and you can’t beat the storage size. Big win overall!
This is the some of the best $ spent to add space. Super quiet on the road. Very solid. One thing Id like to see is something that would make it lock to the roof rack. This could be stolen fairly easy. I like the ease of inflating and deflating for easy storage. I only use when It is needed then store away. Thanks!
Keep adventuring,
Quentin
We bought for our daughter and family of 5 and a large dog. Here's what my son-in-law said...
"It’s phenomenal! Works perfectly. It’s large enough for our needs. And it is a breeze to set up/take down.
Thank you again!! The perfect gift :)"
It was a great. Easy to inflate and install. Easier to take down and store. It was a huge and helped our 7 day camping trip immensely. Love it and will be using it for all my big trips!
The Flated air carrier is incredible and so easy to use right out of the box! Very lightweight and easy to handle alone. It stores so much stuff! It is very simple to strap to my Sherpa roof rack. I used both the built in straps and the side Drings to ensure a secure load in both directions. I loaded this thing up with a large 8 man tent and all required pads and bedding. We drove the highway for 2 hours straight. I forgot it was even up there. It was silent on the highway. I also drive on a maintained dirt road and it did not move around at all while driving over severe washboard.
I inflated the carrier at around 80°F at 4000' elevation and ended up at camp at around 40°F at 6500' elevation. The air pressure did not noticeably change in the carrier. The carrier was still rigid.
When I got home, I unloaded, removed, and aired down the carrier by myself. It very easily stores on a shelf, taking up very little space.
Here are all the reasons why this carrier is superior to any others:
1. Lightweight (can install and uninstall easily by yourself)
- Better than hard carriers
2. Rigid (inflated to a rigid pressure for easy loading / unloading. It does not move around on bumpy roads or high winds)
- Better than soft carriers
3. Durable (withstands harsh environments)
- Better than soft carriers at puncture resistance. Easily repaired with a patch kit if puncture occurs. Better than hardshell carriers as it can be repaired on trails.
- It is not prone to cracking like hard carriers.
4. Large storage capacity
- holds as much as soft carriers can (or more)
- holds a lot larger objects than hard carriers can.
5. Great on road
- silent in high wind unlike soft carriers
- no vibrations or rattles like hard carriers
- aerodynamic and lightweight
The conclusion overall is that the Flated Air Carrier is the best of both hard and soft carriers in one convenient product. I am very impressed.
This product worked out great. I will purchase the auto pump in the future, however it only took approximately 4 minutes to pump it up by hand. Once inflated, I had it strapped down to our 2024 Volkswagen Atlas in about 5-7 minutes. Drove from Midland, TX to Albuquerque, NM without any issues whatsoever. Thanks Flated...Chris
To be honest I was SUPER hesitant on this purchase. I didn't want to deal with having to store a large carrier and the soft pack zipper bags have been garbage so I gave it a try. ZERO regrets, took this from MI to SC and back, through heavy rain and wind. Everything stayed dry and it did not budge on the car. Very well made, heavy duty material, easy to inflate/deflate/store. 5 out of 5 stars.
We are about to take off on a 2 year adventure cruising America’s Great Loop in our 2004 Silverton 43MY. One thing that is lacking on this boat is outdoor storage, so I’ve been looking for flexible but large cargo carrier solutions. I didn’t want to have to install a whole racking solution and I also didn’t want something with lots of metal components and hinges that would rust. The Flated Cargo Carrier so far seems to be an ideal solution for my use case.
Super easy to install. Getting bags in and out was easy because of the large side flaps and no lip. We drove through rain and snow and everything stayed dry. At Highway speeds you could barely tell it was on the roof. What was really cool is after we were done using it, I was able to quickly deflate it and store it in the back of the vehicle for the ride home. My only comment is that I wish there was an extra large version!!!
Needed a solution to travel with our 3 large breed dogs, snowboard gear, and the majority of our belongings from FL to PA for the holidays and beyond after being displaced by Hurricane Helene. The air carrier was perfect, and requires minimal storage space between trips. Tons of space, easy to inflate and install on the roof, and a better price than replacing our previous hard shell that had less capacity.
Took it on a road trip to Mexico and it did not disappoint. I wouldn’t use cross bars though unless you had rails that also ran parallel to the vehicle otherwise it sags from the load. I took a lot of stuff. Definitely better IMO on the roof without the crossbars. Did so much better and I forgot the straps it came with when I left so had to buy other ones. I’ll definitely be buying the topper for the truck in the near future. It’s so easy to set up and deflate and store. Looking forward to taking it to the mountains now.
These are great products! Easy to inflate and quick to mount with the provided straps. Love the compact storage when not using the carrier. With 2 large dogs and a one year old, the cabin space in my SUV is completely freed up for long road trips with this carrier.
As a Military family these toppers were exactly what I was looking for. Something that is temporary but could also be used for a long period of time if decided. I got the bed topper cap for my truck and my wife got the large air carrier for her car. These gave us the extra storage/space needed as we PCS'd across country to our new duty station. These held up perfectly from over 100 degree weather to up in mountains in Yosemite (without having to adjust the air PSI).
They have been taken off our vehicles already and were super easy to pack back up and don't take up much space when put away for storage. I needed a cap for my truck that I could take on and off by myself and it worked perfectly.
The topper/carrier material feels very durable and the zippers feel strong. The straps/buckles they provide are high quality. Super cool how it comes with a repair kit and the hand pump as well.
For full transparency, I have to mention the excellent customer service as something happened with my order (no company is perfect). I emailed them letting them know I received the wrong size topper (right before I was moving across country). They called me and they were very helpful/ friendly and quickly fixed the issue and sent me the correct one right away.
I would 100 percent recommend their products and company. I look forward to using them on future family trips and moves.
I added a picture of my 2018 Silverado 1500 short bed with the topper cap and my wife's 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the large air carrier to help others for reference.
Just buy it!! Used the large air carrier on a camping trip this Labor Day weekend and drove with it on top of my Kia sorento hybrid for a total of 450 miles. In the large air carrier I had 5 foldable rocking chairs, a 4 person tent, a 6 person tent and a 10 person tent. 2 queen inflatable beds, backpacks, pillows and more. It literally installs in a couple minutes, can hold a bunch of stuff and doesn’t make any wind noise or anything. Totally worth it! Might get the “smaller” sport air carrier for smaller trips.
Absolute time saver for packing. The ability to load and unload from either side makes my life so much easier. My wife noticed immediately when we arrived to our campsite and said "you got everything unloaded already?"
I was looking for something for my Tesla Model Y to get all the extra gear, luggage, pack-n-play, and a family of four to the beach 10 hours away for vacation and the Air-Carrier (Large) did the job. I had a rough start because I didn't do any test runs but after making a few adjustments to the heavier gear placement in the carrier we were able to get all the way to the beach with no issues. I had a lot of weight in the middle of the carrier at the beginning of the trip and as soon as I hit about 70 mph on the interstate near my house the air going between the carrier and my luggage rack was making some gnarly noise. I moved the weight forward and retightened the straps and the noise stopped. I will say that the Air-Carrier is top notch but I wish they're had been a little more coordination with Tesla on the roof rack design. The roof rack is slightly curved on the Model Y rack which makes it more aerodynamic but allows air to easily go between the carrier and the rack. You have to really get on the built in Air-Carrier strap to ensure the air doesn't get in and create one of the loudest road noises ever on your very quiet vehicle.
After I worked out the minor changes needed I knew I had made a purchase worth making. This carrier will allow us to stop renting larger vehicles for family vacations and holidays and save us lots of money going forward. It's worth the investment.
I did a lot of research on roof carriers and realized that Flated had great reviews and would give us a stress free experience on our road trip from Chicago to Syracuse ny. Hannah was so helpful as I continued to send questions over and through our dry runs in preparation for the road trip. Everything worked great and I am their no 1 fan. I was doubtful that an inflatable carrier would perform but there were zero issues. I’m a huge fan!!!!!
We love our large cargo carrier from Flated. My jeep has the one touch sky roof and the setup in the photos allows us to open the top even with the carrier and roof racks installed. This carrier is easy to set up and install. Great product!
As a single mom to three small kids I knew managing a hardshell cargo carrier would be nearly impossible. This have been a game changer. I have taken it on two camping trips and it has done great! I have used the manual pump each time with ease. I didn’t get the adapter for my air compressor but havnt tried it yet. Folds up and stores along side my kids paddle boards!
Used the carrier for a multi-state road trip. It carried all of the things that our old hardtop carrier used to - plus more! The ease of installing and uninstalling as well as loading from the side has made what used to be a huge hassle into an easy, ten minute task. Best product we have purchased in a long time!
Large Air Carrier on a factory 2015 Lexus LX-570. I was shocked at how much this holds! We just did a 550 mile trip with it loaded down averaging 85mph with 25mpg head winds. Had minimal affect on gas mileage and carried great. I had to throw one of the straps over the nose to keep it from bouncing but that is due to the flex of the factory bars and would have happened with a coffin carrier. Highly recommend!
This is the exact product I was looking for. It is way larger than I was expecting and can store so much. I am happy that it is so easy to store as well!
I have not had a chance to use it yet. We did blow it up in our carport and put it on the roof of my mini van to try it out. We have to get a roof rack. We will not be using it until July. We needed an extra zipper pull and the service was great. It came in the mail in a few days.
