I have a white RAM 1500 night edition and bought the white cap56 Silverado topper. The white topper brings a coordinated look, after I cover the Chevy logo with white duct tape or you can use a logo of your choice. The matching white mimics a utility vehicle and works as camouflage for an occasional stealth overnight rest/sleep for me and my labrador during long trips.
Since buying the topper last month I drove 1600 miles without problems. The topper stayed firm at highway speeds, 75mph in most states and 80mph in Utah. Before driving I was concerned about the rear vinyl window flopping around, but it held well enough even in the rain. Really waiting for them to restock the new cap56 Rear Air Windows, if it fits properly looks like a nice edition. No problems with overnight stays at the Holiday Inn and Fairfield Inn. I blended in with other utility trucks in the parking lot and did not stay in sketchy areas.
Driving 2400 miles to FL this fall and will alternate nights sleeping in the topper and nice hotels. I like the shower and TV, my labrador likes the second queen bed, and we share the free breakfast. I have faith it will make the trip without any problems. Of note also happy to remove my tonneau hard cover and the topper works nicely with the existing tonneau rails.
So far, it’s awesome. I’ve had it on for a few days, then took it off for awhile and it’s back on now! So easy to take off and on by myself. Stores in its bag over in a corner of my garage. Super handy.
Bought the Chevy 5.7 ft bed capper in white. I have gotten many compliments on how it looks. It took about 10 minutes to inflate and another 20 minutes to attach to the truck. Drove to North Carolina from Pennsylvania and back with it on through terrible rain storms and it never leaked a bit and had no issues. Traveling the Canadian border with it in a few weeks and kenneling the dog under it. I have no complaints so far.
After a lot of research on this product. I decided to purchase it; I like the functionality of the product. I can load it or unload it by myself and easily put it away indoors. The topper is incredibly durable and holds up great under highway speeds.
My only concern is the tailgate belt to secure the rear window. it does not work very well.
To fix this, I purchased 1" wide exterior Velcro that sticks to my tailgate, this replaced the tailgate belt, the rear window functions much better.
I would highly recommend this product.
Works very well. Quiet and durable. I don’t deflate it, just lean it up against the carport. Photo shows a mod that keeps the back from splaying if you leave the rear window open all the time for better rear visibility.
Its an interesting concept. A few things are a bit odd for Me and my 2019 ram 1500 truck. Seems that the rain guard should protrude lower especially at the corners next to the cab. Second is the Velcro strap to use on the tailgate. When installed on my truck blocks the backup camera. I installed stick on Velcro the width of the tailgate and that seems to work ok. Time will tell if the top leaks where it attaches to the truck. I like the ability to remove and install it by myself.
It’s exactly what I needed. My only complaint is that if you buy the Chevy branded Flated topper, it should fit the Chevy bed perfectly. The seal around the front the bed just never sits right. Also, a little more thought needs to be given to the rear window. All in all a good product that I am sure will continue to be refined.
I received the Full Short Cap56 for my Silverado. It was packaged well, and I was able to inflate and install as instructed. My concern is the markings on the white product. There were multiple blue streaks, black scuffs, and general imperfections. Disappointing, when you receive a new expensive toy.
I would love to give this 5 stars but the back access and solution needs to be better. The velcro strap on tailgate is worthless. Everything else is awesome! Need a better solution and id be a 5 star all the way.
First Impression was fantastic BUT
I’m an avid hunter and outdoorsman and the portable concept of this is so nice to have, it did great for the first couple months but now I have changed my mind.
It works good for what I am using it for, BUT there are some long term drawbacks to this.
1) ZIPPERS! if you do not maintain them well they attract dust and now I have non functional zippers after about 6 months having mine.
2)Paint I had a feeling this was going to happen but from having my topper on for the whole month of November I had noticed it likes to rub and has rubbed paint off of my truck so that’s pretty frustrating.
3) Leaking air now have to inflate like a leaky tire and now it won’t hold air so now I have to look for a leak, if I do not inflate it regularly it sags and shifts and is not usable.
Overall it’s okay for a quick easy option that is portable, but if you are planning on using it more then a few times a year for prolonged periods of time you are bound to have the issues I have knowing what I know now I probably would have spent the money on a hard topper.
