FLATED Hits the BC Overland Rally

This summer, I (Hannah from FLATED) packed up my Toyota Tacoma, loaded our MR60 topper, grabbed my husband Rob, our dog Hazel, way too much fishing gear — and pointed north toward British Columbia, Canada for the BC Overland Rally.

Although I live an hour from the border in Montana, every time I go to Canada it just hits different.

Road-Tripping the Old School Way

I do road trips a little old school. Sure, I’ll open a campsite app every now and then, but I fully believe nothing beats a good paper map and a recreation atlas.

The apps are fine… but the best hidden camp spots?

The ones without cell service, crowds, or noise? You find those in the margins of a map — not in an algorithm.

Along the route to Kelowna, we fished two absolute gems of rivers — the Kettle and the Goat. Awesome water, zero crowds, hazy mountains in the distance… It was the kind of route that makes you love taking the long way.

Hazel supervised our fishing attempts. She gave us a C- in catch rate but an A+ in river morale.

Kelowna Wine Country

After a few scenic work stops along the riverbanks, we finally rolled into the Okanagan wine valley in Canada. It’s such a unique and beautiful wine region — and incredibly dog-friendly, which Hazel definitely appreciated! Some people even joked that the real reason we wanted to attend this particular rally was for the chance to sip our way through wine country.

People say I only go to events in wine regions on purpose. I plead the fifth.

BC Overland Rally — What. A. Vibe.

Once I linked up with Katie from our FLATED Canada team, it was go time. The BC Overland Rally blew me away — hands down one of the most positive, stoked, community-driven events I’ve been to.

Highlights:

• The biggest raffle I’ve ever witnessed — seriously, it felt like it went on for hours in the best way.
  
  

• Meeting killer brands like iKamper and falling in love with Canadian originals like RUX and Goso Gear.
  
  

• So many rigs rocking FLATED setups — from compact builds to big overland haulers. Seeing our gear in the wild, in another country, was surreal.
  

Final Thoughts

If you ever get the chance to attend the BC Overland Rally, GO. It’s part trade show, part off-grid family reunion, part wine country detour (if you’re like me) and endless epic BC wilderness to explore.
