Ken Hoeve, co-founder of FLATED®, is no stranger to spontaneous adventures—and this Memorial Day roadtrip had it all: river surfing, fly fishing, hot springs, and hidden gems tucked deep in the Montana wilderness. First Stop: Idaho's Legendary Lochsa River

Ken’s first destination was Idaho’s iconic Lochsa River, where he rolled into the Lochsa Lodge for the night. Nestled in the mountains and surrounded by towering pines, the lodge offered a perfect basecamp for the kind of action-packed day Ken had in mind.

Morning brought waves—and not the beach kind. Ken and crew hit the Lochsa for some epic river surfing, catching standing waves in icy water with nothing but stoke to keep them warm. From there, they traded boards for rods and did some fishing in the clear mountain waters before winding down with a soak in a nearby natural hot spring. A perfect mix of adrenaline and zen.

Next Stop: Memorial Day in Montana

After Idaho, it was on to Montana, where Ken met up with one of FLATED’s co-founders to spend Memorial Day weekend on a private ranch. With the Air-Topper® as his home base, Ken camped out surrounded by wide-open skies, crisp mountain air, and miles of wilderness. The peaceful setting came with one small challenge: avoiding the local bear population. Luckily, no wildlife encounters—just incredible scenery and campfire hangs.

While in Montana, Ken linked up with the Missoula Fly Guy for a day of fishing on some of the state’s most pristine waters.
