Build Highlight - Todd & Cindy's Cross-Country Camping Rig

  • 2 min read

Some of our favorite builds come from customers who have spent years putting their FLATED Air-Topper through real adventures. Todd and Cindy Hamilton, from west-central Florida, have been traveling the country with theirs for nearly four years, and it's become an essential part of their camping setup.

For one of their biggest trips yet, a 6,000-mile journey through the western United States, they pushed their Air-Topper well beyond everyday use. To create additional living space, they mounted a metal roof basket along with two 6.8' x 8' awnings, including a screened room on one side and a tent on the other. In total, the rooftop setup weighed more than 130 pounds.

"It worked like a champ through 80-85 mph highway driving and a ton of wind out west."

Living in Florida, Todd and Cindy's Air-Topper spends its life outdoors, exposed to sun, heat, and the elements year-round. Even after nearly four years of regular use, it's still going strong.

"We've always parked it outside in the Florida sun. Still zero issues, and it definitely exceeds all our expectations."

Built for More Than Just Covered Storage

Todd and Cindy's setup is a great example of what makes the FLATED Air-Topper different from a traditional soft topper. The Air-Topper is built with 4-inch drop-stitch construction, creating a rigid, inflatable structure that can do much more than simply keep your gear dry.

The roof is equipped with four reinforced D-rings and two integrated carry straps, making it easy to securely fasten gear for long highway drives and backcountry adventures. Whether you're carrying a roof basket, recovery boards, camping equipment, surfboards, or paddle boards, the Air-Topper is designed to help keep everything secure while you're on the move.

For Ford Maverick owners, the MR46 Air-Topper is one of the most versatile truck camping solutions available. Unlike a permanent fiberglass shell, the MR46 gives you enclosed cargo space when you need it and packs away when you don't, so you never have to sacrifice your truck bed just because your plans changed.

Whether you're loading mulch on Saturday, heading out for a week of camping, or building an overland setup like Todd and Cindy's, the MR46 Air-Topper lets your Maverick stay as flexible as the day you bought it.
