Some events are about showing off the latest gear.
Others are about remembering why you bought the gear in the first place.
The Big Thing 2026 was definitely the second.
This summer, the FLATED crew headed back to XOverland Ranch for another incredible weekend surrounded by people who believe overlanding is about exploration, self-reliance, and building lasting friendships. It wasn't just another stop on the event calendar... it felt like coming back to camp.
A Home for the Overland Community
One of the things that makes XOverland Ranch so special is that it isn't simply an event venue. It's a purpose-built gathering place designed to bring together people who love travel, adventure, and learning.
The ranch is becoming a destination for the overland community. Instead of endless vendor booths and crowded convention halls, the ranch offers open spaces, campfires, trails, classrooms, and opportunities to connect with people who have actually lived the stories they're sharing.
That atmosphere changes everything.
Conversations happen naturally around camp. Questions turn into trail stories. Complete strangers become future travel partners.
It's hard to describe until you've experienced it yourself.

Learning From Those Who've Been There
Throughout the weekend, we sat in on presentations covering everything from vehicle recovery techniques and trip preparation to unbelievable stories from expeditions around the globe.
These weren't theoretical lessons.
They came from people who have navigated remote trails, solved real problems in the field, and learned what matters most when you're hundreds of miles from pavement.
Whether you were brand new to overlanding or had thousands of trail miles under your belt, there was something valuable to take away.
Driving the Rivian R1T
One of our favorite moments from the weekend was getting behind the wheel of a Rivian R1T during the skills course.
The course was designed to build confidence rather than test bravery, giving drivers the chance to experience proper off-road techniques while seeing what modern adventure vehicles are capable of.
It's always fun watching people climb out of the driver's seat with the same grin.

Bringing FLATED Along for the Ride
We were excited to be back as part of The Big Thing and to contribute an Air-Storage Box for this year's raffle.
Whether you're packing recovery gear, camp equipment, or the little things that somehow always end up rolling around your truck bed, the Air-Storage Box was built for exactly the kind of adventures this community loves.
Throughout the weekend, we spent time talking with customers, meeting new faces, catching up with old friends, and hearing about the places our products have traveled over the past year. Those conversations are one of the best parts of every event we attend.

Thank You to an Incredible Community
Events like The Big Thing don't happen without an amazing group of partners working behind the scenes.
A huge thank you to XOverland, AvantLink, Fjällräven, Equipt, Kingpin Lighting, and the many other companies and volunteers who helped make the weekend possible.
Every person there shared the same goal: helping people get outside with confidence and creating a stronger overland community for everyone.
Until Next Time
As a company, FLATED loves attending events across the country, but The Big Thing continues to stand out.
It isn't about who has the biggest build, the newest accessories, or the most expensive rig.
It's about learning something new, sharing stories around camp, meeting incredible people, and leaving inspired to plan your next adventure.
That's the kind of overlanding community we're proud to be part of.
We'll see you at the next campfire.
